Almdorf in the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve

The Almdorf at the foot of the Turracher Höhe is a special place for me – to recharge my batteries, indulge and get inspirations.

Located on two sunny Nockberge plateaus, it is like living in an old village, but also like in a modern luxury hotel. In rustic huts or exquisite wooden chalets at 1,500 metres above sea level. Hardly surprising, as owner Prince Alfred of Liechtenstein puts great emphasis on natural luxury. Treat yourself to clear mountain air, fine spirits from the wine cellar as well as relaxation baths in private hot tubs after extensive hikes. Gourmets also get their money’s worth thanks to fresh organic products from the region with Carinthian and Austrian specialities. And the innkeeper will even serve you these delights directly at your hut.
Even those who are in need of a change of pace are in the right place here: Learn ‘Kärntner Kasnudeln krendeln’ in cooking courses with head chef Harald Schrager and his team. Treat yourself to tender beef from the region or freshly caught char from the grill, directly on your terrace with a long-distance view. Or go for a stylish and atmospheric summer picnic with a magnificent panoramic view of green alpine meadows. After all, what could be nicer than taking off your snack backpack after a strenuous ascent and simply savouring a meal? For me, the perfect end of the day here is the traditional herbal hay bath, which is prepared according to traditional knowledge – with herbs and hay directly from the mountain farmer next door. Sustained relaxation is literally guaranteed here.
